Network Engineer - IT Careers

Salary Range:

£25,000 - £40,000

Recognised Qualifications:­

Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE)

Key Responsibilities:

  • monitoring use of the network
  • allocating network resources
  • Installation and maintenance of servers, hardware and software infrastructure
  • Maintenance of servers to ensure they remain cost effective and efficient
  • suggesting and providing IT solutions to business and management problems
  • ensuring that all IT equipment complies with industry standards
  • analysing and resolving faults from major system crashes to internet connection failures
  • monitoring and maintaining system security measures
  • technical support and training for IT users
  • supervising other staff, for example help desk technicians

A Typical Day as a Network Engineer:

A Network Engineers typical day will include analysing data traffic levels on the network, allocating resources, including the number of access points for different areas and bandwidth allocations. You will also be involved in project work and will assess business needs, research and recommend appropriate IT solutions, and then implement these solutions, arranging or giving training where necessary. Safety of the network is paramount and you are likely to have to take care of virus protection, firewalls and take measures to prevent un-authorised access, including user account and resource access maintenance.
