Network Administrator / Controller - IT Careers
Salary Range:
£25,000 - £35,000
Recognised Qualifications:
Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) and Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA)
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain hardware and software that comprises the network
- Maintenance of network facilities on individual machines including PCs, drivers and printers
- Maintain network servers, file servers and gateways
- Ensure safety of the network including access control, intrusion detection and prevention, back up and recovery procedures
- Co-ordinate external support requirements
- Training and support of network technicians and engineers
- Project work including needs analysis, researching relevant technologies, assessing cost implications and recommending appropriate path to follow
A Typical Day as a Network Administrator / Controller:
Your typical tasks as a Network Administrator revolve around maintaining and developing an efficient network structure, and taking care of the individual elements that make up the network. Daily tasks will include installing and performing maintenance actions on active devices, switches, routers and firewalls. Server maintenance is a big part of the job and you will work on software security patches, operating system updates, performance tuning, log analysis, application updates and de-bugging. Security of the network is paramount, you will be expected to be up to date with all the latest technologies in detection and prevention of intrusions, and you will recommend and apply the most appropriate techniques to protect the network.
