Database Administrator - IT Careers
Salary Range:
Starting salaries range from £20,000 - £30,000. Senior level Database Administrators can earn up to £45,000
Recognised Qualifications:
Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA)
Key Responsibilities:
- Creation of new or modification of existing databases
- Maintenance and optimisation of databases
- Regular testing of databases to identify and then correct problems
- Configuration and management of database security
- Maintenance of data standards to comply with the Data Protection Act
- Installation upgrades to current databases
- Ensuring that storage, archiving, back up and recovery procedures are in place and routinely carried out
- Resolving data warehousing issues
A Typical Day as a Database Administrator:
A typical day as a Database Administrator will involve managing the organisations or clients databases. This will include a variety of tasks, such as checking data quality, testing the system, investigating and resolving issues such as data corruption or orphanage, and backing up the data. You will often be involved in project work, liaising with IT and senior management regarding new databases or database upgrades for the company. Project work may encompass everything from assessing user needs to data architecture design, database installation, SQL programming, testing and launching.
