CIW Course Overview

The Master Web Site Manager programme, with the CompTIA® A+ and Master CIW Designer qualifications proves that IT Professionals have the knowledge and competency in computer hardware and operating system technologies, and have the skills to develop and maintain web and e-commerce sites using a variety of web languages, applications, development packages whilst specialising in web and programming languages such as JavaScript and Perl.

CIW Certification 

The CIW certification is the worlds largest growing and most popular Internet certification. Candidates holding the Master CIW Designer certification demonstrate an understanding of multiple and vendor neutral skills as well as knowledge of industry standards and best practices. The certification is ideal for individuals wanting to start a career as a web developer using authoring and scripting languages, management tools, digital media tools and moving onto ecommerce standards and technologies. The certification and course will provide individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to work with a variety of packages such as Microsoft® FrontPage®, Dreamweaver®, Flash® and Fireworks®, Contribute®, Dynamic HTML and other multimedia standards.

Students will be able to enhance their skills and knowledge further by studying for and taking the CIW Server Administrator, JavaScript Fundamentals, and Perl Fundamentals exams. Taking these further CIW exams will allow students to configure and manage corporate Internet and intranet infrastructures, and configure and deploy e-business solutions servers. Studying and taking the JavaScript and Perl exams will expose students to web programming for application development using database language, scripting and programming syntax. This will allow students to further their interests and careers using programming languages.

Students will begin the course learning and passing the CompTIA A+ Certification to gain a better understanding of computer hardware components, operating systems, computer maintenance, networking, health and safety, and security. Earning the A+ certification will prove that the candidate has entry level knowledge to enter a career in IT.

CIW Training Delivery

The programme consists of eight study units allowing students to focus on working through specific areas in a logical order to ensure pre-requisite knowledge and skill is gained. Each unit prepares students for specific exams by providing clear guidance on exam objectives through course materials combined with support from qualified CIW Authorised Instructors.

Students will receive course material for each unit through the post with instructions on how to start the unit with recommendations on study tips.

Programme Materials

Upon starting each unit, each student will be provided with study materials for that unit contained in manuals, guides, and CD-ROM. Study manuals following the official exam objectives will be provided with testing software to assess your level of knowledge and readiness for the exam. Study companions will instruct students on how to study for that unit including timescales. Software will also be provided to students during the programme which will be used to design, develop and maintain interactive online experiences within websites.

Programme Objectives

At completion of the study programme students will have acquired the following skills:

  • Ability to install, build, configure, upgrade, troubleshoot and repair personal computer components.
  • Install, configure, optimise, troubleshoot, and upgrade operating systems.
  • Understand the foundations of the Internet including protocols, DNS, email, browsers, and search engines.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of basic network technology and standards including networking hardware, wireless, security, and operating systems.
  • Demonstrate knowledge required to develop web sites using HTML, XML, and other web enhancement technologies.
  • Use advanced web technologies to enhance a web site and manage the website development process.
  • Ability to develop, host, and evaluate an e-commerce site.
  • Ability to create and manage websites using packages and technology such as Microsoft FrontPage, Adobe Flash and Fireworks, Contribute, Dreamweaver, JavaScript, Dynamic HTML, and XML.
  • The ability to manage and develop web site projects and design to meet customer expectation.
  • Configure and manage proxy, Internet, SMTP, IMAP, and POP3 email servers.
  • Write JavaScript programs and create custom objects.
  • Use and create custom JavaScript objects.
  • Implement and use basic syntax of Perl code.
  • Manipulate environment variables and files in Perl.

Duration

3 years support including 16 days of classroom based workshops.
